Grapefruit Craft

Emily and I are having a weekly craft, and this is our first craft of our first week! I will be posting our crafts here, and trying to keep up with my blog posts :)

This is a grapefruit craft. A grapefruit bird feeder, in fact! Here are some pictures to show you how to make it:

Here's what you'll need: small grapefruit {or large orange}, heavy duty string, cutting board, very sharp knife, toothpicks, and a spoon!

Cut the grapefruit in half with the sharp knife on the cutting board.

Scoop out the inside of one half of the grapefruit with the spoon into a bowl. It was really gross {just warning you}!

This is what it should look like when you're finished scooping the fruit out!

Use a ruler and measure three 18 inch pieces of heavy duty string.

Use the toothpicks to skewer 3 evenly spaced holes about half an inch from the top of the grapefruit.

Tie a knot at the end of the three strings, and have someone hold the knot on the bottom of the grapefruit.

Pull the string through the grapefruit holes that you made!

Pull them tightly and tie another knot at the top.

Take your grapefruit outside and fill it with birdseed to the rim!

 Until it looks like this!

Hang it from a strong branch, and ...

Watch the birds eat from your grapefruit feeder!!!

Emily and I are so happy about our grapefruit creation!

I hope you enjoyed these pictures, and want to make it sometime! It's very fun!
